Welcome
Cambridge Bay Childcare Society
The Cambridge Bay Childcare Society (CBCS) is a non-profit, parent-led daycare dedicated to supporting families in our community through safe, nurturing, and high-quality childcare. Our Board of Directors is made up of parents whose children attend the daycare, ensuring that our decisions always reflect the needs and voices of the families we serve.
Our goal is to provide children with enriching early learning experiences that spark curiosity, build confidence, and foster healthy development. Over the years, we have worked hard to upgrade our programs and services, always striving for excellence in childcare and early education. At CBCS, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive in an environment built on trust, care, and community.
Because we are a non-profit organization, we rely on a combination of government funding, grants, and community donations to keep our center running smoothly. One of the highlights of our year is our Annual Charity Auction — a much-anticipated community event that brings families, local businesses, and supporters together. The funds raised go directly toward keeping the center open, improving our programs, and ensuring that children in Cambridge Bay have the best start possible in life.
Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference. By supporting the Cambridge Bay Childcare Society, you’re helping us nurture the next generation and strengthen our community as a whole.
Our Mission…
is to provide safe, nurturing, and culturally grounded early childhood education that supports the growth and development of every child. We are dedicated to fostering a sense of belonging, strengthening families, and building a strong foundation for lifelong learning within our community.

Fee Schedule
$10/Day Daycare
The Cambridge Bay Childcare Society is proud to offer $10-a-day daycare, made possible through the Government of Nunavut’s initiative for licensed childcare facilities. Since December 1, 2022, families with children aged six and under have been able to access this affordable childcare option. This program helps ensure that parents can pursue work, education, or training opportunities while knowing their children are in a safe and nurturing learning environment.
Support for Kitikmeot Inuit Beneficiaries
The Kitikmeot Inuit Association (KIA) offers a Licensed Child Care Subsidy Program that provides financial assistance to Kitikmeot Inuit families to help cover the cost of enrolling children in licensed childcare centers. To be eligible, the parent registering the child must be registered with the Kitikmeot Inuit Association under the Nunavut Agreement. This program aims to support Inuit families by making childcare more affordable and accessible.
For more precise eligibility criteria, application instructions, and details about the subsidy amount, interested families can visit the KIA website or contact the association directly. The subsidy is part of KIA’s broader efforts to provide social and economic benefits to local families in the Kitikmeot Region.
Our Programs
At the Cambridge Bay Childcare Society, we provide nurturing, age-appropriate programs designed to support children’s growth, learning, and development. Our center is divided into four groups:
Ukaliqmiut (2 years)
Our Junior Toddler room is a warm and welcoming space where little ones learn and grow through play! Each day, our caring educators create fun, hands-on experiences that spark curiosity and support early development.
We focus on building fine motor skills, encouraging sensory exploration, and helping toddlers learn about their world in meaningful ways. As children begin to use words and short sentences, we support them in expressing themselves, forming positive relationships, and developing tools to recognize and regulate their emotions.
We gently introduce structure through circle time and group activities while promoting independence by giving children choices and opportunities to practice self-help skills.
Most importantly, our educators provide a caring, inclusive environment where every child feels safe, supported, and excited to learn each day.
Infants (6 months – 2 years)
Our infant program provides a warm, safe, and caring environment where the youngest children can grow, explore, and form trusting relationships with their caregivers. Each day is filled with nurturing interactions and playful learning designed to support every stage of early development.
Infants are encouraged to play together, practice balancing and walking on soft mats, and explore movement through songs and nursery rhymes with fun actions. We introduce simple words and sign language to support early communication, and help them discover the world around them through stories, animal sounds, and creative play.
Through gentle guidance and plenty of encouragement, we help each child build confidence, curiosity, and joy in learning, one little step at a time.
Tuktumiut (3 years)
Our senior toddlers program helps children build confidence, encouraging self-care skills and helping them build pride in their autonomy.
With nurturing routines and gentle guidance our children learn to trust their own abilities while feeling emotionally supported. We encourage their fine and gross motor skills development, and introduce early literacy and pre-math concepts in fun, engaging ways. Through learning experiences in art, science, and hands-on exploration, children discover the joy of playing, growing emotionally, socially and creatively in a warm caring environment, where our educators emphasize positive values.
Amaruqmuit (4 years – 6 years)
Our preschool program invites children to create and discover through a play-based, emergent curriculum, supporting all foundational areas of early childhood development. Children are encouraged to build independence through practicing self-advocacy and problem-solving in a supportive environment. This inclusive classroom celebrates all learning styles, cultural backgrounds, and individual needs, ensuring every child feels valued and inspired to learn.
